Open local
markdown files

Point Flashtype at any folder on your disk - your notes, docs, or a repo. Every document is a plain .md file. No account, no proprietary format, no lock-in.

Rich text editing

Headings, lists and links render live as you type - no split preview, no markdown syntax in your face. It reads like the finished page while you write.

Claude &Codex
built in

Run Claude Code or Codex in a pane next to your draft. They read and edit the same files - no copy-paste, no context juggling.

Diffs

Agent changes land as inline diffs right in your document. Accept the good ones, reject the rest - nothing changes without you seeing it.

No Git required

Version control

Every change is tracked automatically - yours or the agent's. Compare any version with your current draft and restore an earlier one in one click.

More than Markdown

Agents also edit CSV and Excalidraw files. You keep or undo each change.

Powered byLix

Flashtype's version control runs on Lix, an open version control system for any file format. Every edit is tracked, so you can see what changed, compare versions, and go back to any of them.

FAQ

What is Flashtype?

When should I choose Flashtype over another Markdown editor?

Does Flashtype work with local files?
Yes. Open any folder on your Mac. Documents stay plain .md files and tables stay plain .csv files. There is no proprietary format.
How are AI edits reviewed?
Claude Code and Codex can edit the same files, and Flashtype shows their changes as inline diffs. You keep or undo each change.
Does Flashtype have version control?
Yes. Version control is built in and powered by Lix. Every change is tracked automatically, so you can compare versions and restore any earlier state of a document - no Git, no commits.
Can my team work together in Flashtype?
Yes. Turn on optional cloud sync through LixRay (lixray.com) to share a folder with your team, with real-time co-editing. Without sync, your files stay on your Mac.
